My journey in the film industry spans nearly two decades, and I've witnessed a remarkable evolution in cinematography techniques and technology. From traditional film cameras to cutting-edge digital systems, the tools we use have transformed, but the core principles of visual storytelling remain constant.
The Digital Revolution#
When I first entered the industry, shooting on actual film was still the standard for high-end productions. The workflow was deliberate and methodical - every shot needed to be carefully planned because film was expensive and you couldn't immediately see your results.
The transition to digital changed everything. As a DIT (Digital Imaging Technician) on sets, I've been at the forefront of this transformation. Today's cameras like the ARRI Alexa and RED systems offer incredible dynamic range and flexibility, but they also bring new challenges in data management and post-production workflows.

Technical Evolution and Creative Impact#

Working with ARRI Systems#
My time working with ARRI camera systems has given me a deep appreciation for the engineering behind modern cinematography tools. From the development of the Codex Mobile Computer for ingesting and transcoding to the Companion app for camera control, these tools have streamlined on-set workflows and enabled filmmakers to focus more on creative decisions.

Looking Forward#
The next frontier in cinematography involves virtual production, LED walls, and real-time rendering engines. These technologies are blurring the line between production and post-production, allowing filmmakers to see final or near-final images while still on set.
No matter how technology evolves, the fundamental principles of cinematography will remain: telling stories through compelling visual language. The tools may change, but the art remains.
